V\u00e1rios materiais abrasivos podem ser usados para as part\u00edculas, tais como granada, carboneto de sil\u00edcio, \u00f3xido de alum\u00ednio e diamante. A lixa \u00e9 amplamente aplicada em diversos setores industriais para criar acabamentos de superf\u00edcie espec\u00edficos em madeira, metal e drywall. O tamanho do gr\u00e3o, ou seja, o tamanho das part\u00edculas abrasivas incrustadas na lixa, determina a taxa de desgaste e o tamanho dos arranh\u00f5es do material a ser lixado. As lixas de maior granulometria t\u00eam part\u00edculas menores, resultando em menores velocidades de lixamento e acabamentos superficiais mais finos. Lixas com o mesmo n\u00famero de gr\u00e3os, mas feitas de materiais diferentes, podem ter comportamentos n\u00e3o semelhantes sob condi\u00e7\u00f5es secas ou \u00famidas. S\u00e3o necess\u00e1rias avalia\u00e7\u00f5es tribol\u00f3gicas confi\u00e1veis para garantir que a lixa fabricada possua o comportamento abrasivo desejado. Uma bola de a\u00e7o inoxid\u00e1vel 440 foi usada como contra-material. A lixa 1, em condi\u00e7\u00f5es secas, mostra um COF de 0,4 no in\u00edcio do teste que diminui progressivamente e se estabiliza a 0,3. Em condi\u00e7\u00f5es \u00famidas, esta amostra apresenta um COF m\u00e9dio mais baixo de 0,27. FIGURA 3 e FIGURA 4 comparam as cicatrizes de desgaste das bolas SS440 desgastadas ap\u00f3s os testes de desgaste em Lixa 1 e 2 (condi\u00e7\u00f5es \u00famidas e secas). Como mostrado no FIGURA 4, o NANOVEA Optical Profiler captura com precis\u00e3o a topografia da superf\u00edcie das quatro bolas e suas respectivas faixas de desgaste que foram ent\u00e3o processadas com o software NANOVEA Mountains Advanced Analysis para calcular a perda de volume e a taxa de desgaste. No microsc\u00f3pio e na imagem do perfil da bola, pode-se observar que a bola utilizada para o teste de lixa 1 (seca) exibia uma cicatriz de desgaste achatada maior em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com as outras, com uma perda de volume de 0,313\u00a0<span style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\">mm<\/span><sup style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; text-align: left;\">3<\/sup>. Em contraste, a perda de volume da Lixa 1 (molhada) foi de 0,131\u00a0<span style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\">mm<\/span><sup style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; text-align: left;\">3<\/sup>. Para Lixa 2 (seca) a perda de volume foi de 0,163\u00a0<span style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\">mm<\/span><sup style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; text-align: left;\">3<\/sup>\u00a0e para Lixa 2 (\u00famida) a perda de volume aumentou para 0,237\u00a0<span style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\">mm<\/span><sup style=\"color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, arial, sans-serif; text-align: left;\">3<\/sup>.<\/p><p>Al\u00e9m disso, \u00e9 interessante observar que o COF desempenhou um papel importante no desempenho de abras\u00e3o das lixas. A lixa 1 exibiu COF mais alto na condi\u00e7\u00e3o seca, levando a uma maior taxa de abras\u00e3o para a esfera SS440 utilizada no teste. Em compara\u00e7\u00e3o, o maior COF da lixa 2 na condi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00famida resultou em uma maior taxa de abras\u00e3o.
