Uma ponta plana, de pino ou bola \u00e9 carregada em uma amostra de teste com um peso preciso e em uma posi\u00e7\u00e3o espec\u00edfica a partir do centro de rota\u00e7\u00e3o. Quando a amostra come\u00e7a a girar, a ponta cria uma pista de desgaste rotacional. O coeficiente de atrito \u00e9 medido com precis\u00e3o pela deflex\u00e3o de uma c\u00e9lula de carga, calibrada com precis\u00e3o. Devido ao codificador de posi\u00e7\u00e3o externa integrado de 16 bits, o atrito pode ser exibido para qualquer posi\u00e7\u00e3o ou zona espec\u00edfica para cada passagem de ciclo. Al\u00e9m disso, o codificador de velocidade interno de 20bit garante mudan\u00e7as suaves ou r\u00e1pidas de velocidade de rota\u00e7\u00e3o de 0,01 a 5000rpm durante um \u00fanico teste, proporcionando um coeficiente de atrito preciso em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 velocidade. As velocidades at\u00e9 0,01rpm s\u00e3o essenciais para estudar o atrito na zona est\u00e1tica e para compreender melhor a transi\u00e7\u00e3o entre o coeficiente de atrito est\u00e1tico e cin\u00e9tico.  As taxas de desgaste da amostra podem ser calculadas a partir do perfil 2D nas posi\u00e7\u00f5es escolhidas ou a partir do perfil 3D completo real de toda a pista de desgaste.
