La rouille s'accumule progressivement et des piq\u00fbres apparaissent et se d\u00e9veloppent sur la surface du m\u00e9tal au fur et \u00e0 mesure que le processus de corrosion se d\u00e9roule, ce qui rend la surface du tuyau rugueuse. Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s galvaniques diff\u00e9rentielles entre les m\u00e9taux, les influences ioniques des solutions ainsi que le pH des solutions peuvent tous jouer un r\u00f4le dans le processus de corrosion des tuyaux, conduisant \u00e0 un m\u00e9tal corrod\u00e9 avec diff\u00e9rentes caract\u00e9ristiques de surface. Une mesure pr\u00e9cise de la rugosit\u00e9 et de la texture de la surface corrod\u00e9e permet de comprendre les m\u00e9canismes impliqu\u00e9s dans un processus de corrosion sp\u00e9cifique. Les profilom\u00e8tres conventionnels ont des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 atteindre et \u00e0 mesurer la paroi interne corrod\u00e9e des tuyaux. Le moulage de r\u00e9pliques offre une solution en reproduisant les caract\u00e9ristiques de la surface interne de mani\u00e8re non destructive. Il peut \u00eatre facilement appliqu\u00e9 sur la paroi interne du tuyau corrod\u00e9 et prend en 15 minutes.
