The Nanovea Nano Module, optional on Platform or Compact Base, offers nanometer-scale during nano scratch tester, nanoindenter and nano wear tester modes. Ideal for industrial coatings and those who demand ultrahigh resolution to accurately characterize thin layers of material. Examples include thin DLC overcoats used in the magnetic hard disk industry, solar thin films and thin optical coatings in the lens industry. Another major application of the nano module is marring of varnish clearcoats such as those used in the automobile industry. NANO TESTING The Nano Module has independent force and depth sensors which are separately calibrated using equipment traceable to mass and length standards. The Nano module is equipped with a load cell that continuously measures the real applied load. This combined with a piezo-electric controller allows quick force feedback control which is essential for nano scratch and nano wear testing. Because the load is applied vertically directly from the piezo instead of using remote horizontal cantilever system, the control of the load applied far exceeds what is achievable with cantilever technologies. The stiffness and verticality of the applied load leads to unmatched nanoindentation results. Two standards, fused silica and sapphire, are included to assess the instrument calibration over a wide range of materials. Depth is measured with high precision capacitive ring during nano scratch, indentation and wear testing. Superior thermal stability which allows testing without wait time.
